The female nude dates back to the very beginning of art, but it remains a contested symbol. American photographer Renée Jacobs speaks to Eve Jackson about reclaiming it and using it as a form of queer and feminist activism. The artist also talks about the frightening power of female sexuality, why the terms of female and male gaze are reductive and the effect the city of Paris has on women. Jacobs’ photo books are entitled “Paris” and “Polaroids” and her exhibition “Dreams & Desires” is being shown at the Sinner hotel in Paris.
